BLACK MIRROR MADE A TRANSMEDIA GAME YOU CAN PLAY FOR SEASON 7

Black Mirror is back for season 7 on Netflix and along with it, comes some transmedia horror that brings the episode into the real world. Peter Capaldi's 'Plaything' episode introduces the creepy little game Throngletsand Netflix has made the game a reality you can play right now.

Netflix has many faults, but one thing it has never shied away from is the ability to push boundaries—especially with Horror. Black Mirror is one series in particular that has been a testing and breeding ground for Transmedia content that expands the narrative of their episodes. By inviting fans into the world, Netflix has taken the dystopian UK horror and science fiction series by Charlie Brooker and turned it into a pop culture icon along the lines of the Twilight Zone for its profound social commentary.

SPOILER ALERT:
(If you haven’t seen it yet - scroll at your own peril but I’m not going to give too much away)

Peter Capaldi is incredible as a writer for a video game magazine in the 90’s turned reclusive digital God in present day. “Plaything” features these bizarre little creatures who are highly intelligent digital life forms called the Throng.

In the episode, which jumps back and forth in time telling the tale of how he got his hands on the Thronglets game and a murder tied to it. This game is Netflix second jump into making gamified Transmedia content with Black Mirror and ironically the Thronglets, game was created by genius video game designer Colin Ritman, played by Will Poulter, reprising his Black Mirror: Bandersnatch role. Bandersnatch was a choose your own adventure style episode that debuted on Netflix in 2018.

I don’t really want to tell you anymore about this fantastic little episode—So go watch the episode and then go play the game. It’s weird as hell FYI.

You can get it for Android or iOS here and Netflix has also made a game guide for it.
