Nerd Horror Artist Spotlight: Sarah Navin

by Megan Chase

Sarah Navin (@coinswallow on Instagram) is an illustrator primarily making horror comics. Since first joining Instagram in 2020, she has amassed over 200k followers, not only by posting her original comics but also posting feminist talking points, interests in other creepy forms of media, and daily-life reels full of her own personality. The first comic she began posting is titled Darker Further Down, about a family living in the mysterious town of Blackwater somewhere in Maine. Full of strange residents, the town is anything but normal.

Her most recent publication is Let Her Be Evil, an anthology surrounding wicked women with cruel intentions. It features seventeen different stories from various artists and writers, aiming to carve out a narrative space for exploring darker sides of femininity. The book starts off with Sarah’s comic called Trapfixer. It follows the story of a girl who grew up with doomsday-prepper parents, and who witnesses a woman die in one of her hunting traps while she contemplates the end of her world.

Sarah does an amazing job creating these captivating stories—the unsettling artwork and draws you in and the intriguing and loveable narratives keep you there!
