WE’RE MAKING A NERD HORROR VIDEO GAME

We just announced that we’re making a nerd horror transmedia video game! What does that mean? This is a narrative based game full of nerdy deep dives into alternate reality mini-games. It means in-game content in the form of videos, animations, puzzles, and documents that delve into creepy legend and lore and modern cosmic horror in ways that are both key to and enhance the game and story.

Nerd Horror Media founders Hal Hefner (a transmedia professor and content strategist who has worked on shows like Chucky and Yellowjackets 2) and Justine Norton-Kertson (Editor-in-Chief of Android Press and Solarpunk Magazine) are heading up the project. The development team is made up of about a dozen artist, animator, writer, and programmer interns from Rochester Institute of Technology in upstate New York, who have incredibly instrumental and impressive from the first day we sat down and watched their faces light up when we told them they were going to be making a horror video game. The project is designed to give the interns the experience of working with a team in a workplace setting to develop a game to completion and build their resumes with real world, practical experience that will give them a headstart when they graduate.

We’re not giving out too many details right now. But we’ll be posting updates every week or two here on our and on our social media channels, and we invite you to use those updates to follow along with us as we develop the game and bring it to life. Once it’s ready, the game will be available to play for free on Itch.
