Dealing with themes of faith and the fragility of human civilization, leaving you wondering if what the threat the strangers speak of is true.

Donnie Darko (2001)

Donnie Darko, directed by Richard Kelly, is a psychological thriller and science fiction film that belongs in the Nerd Horror genre for its blending of time travel and existentialism themes with teenage angst. Donnie Darko is a high school student living in a suburban town who suffers from mental health issues and hallucinations. One night when he is sleepwalking he meets a mysterious figure named Frank who encourages deplorable behavior. Donnie learns about the darkness in the people around him, while grappling with the uncertainty of Frank's catastrophic threats.

The Last of Us

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog, centers around Joel's life in the apocalypse after losing his daughter. Twenty years after the outbreak of the fungal infection, Joel has found his footing in this new world, when he is tasked with escorting precious cargo across the country that could contain a cure; a young girl named Ellie.

MOTHMAN (POINT PLEASANT, WV)

One of the most famous cryptids, Mothman is described as a winged humanoid with glowing red eyes. Sightings of the creature in the 1960s coincided with the collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant, leading some to believe it was an omen of disaster. Other sightings have been reported in Chicago, Minneapolis, upstate New York, and elsewhere across the United States, leading many to believe it’s not a cryptid at all, but some kind of interdimensional being. Mothman has been the subject of documentaries, books, and even an annual festival.
