Teaser Drops for Valentines Day Horror Film ‘HEART EYES’
by Justine Norton-Kertson
Romance horror has been around for decades. It’s popularity no doubt stems from terrifying thought that our loved ones could turn on us at any moment, or that a date will turn into a nightmare. Heart Eyes, set to premiere on February 7, 2025, promises to be a bold addition to the genre, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Known for their genre-bending horror comedies like Freaky and Happy Death Day, the filmmaking team at Screen Gems and Spyglass takes romance horror to the next level.
In the Official Red Band Teaser released by Bloody Disgusting, viewers get an early taste of the film's chilling premise and visceral, stylized violence. Directed by Josh Ruben (Werewolves Within, Scare Me), Heart Eyes stars Mason Gooding (Scream) and Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer) as a couple caught in the path of the "Heart Eyes Killer," a Valentine’s Day menace who stalks and murders couples in increasingly gruesome ways. With the tagline “This Valentine’s Day, romance is dead,” the film explores the dark side of love in a world where no couple is safe.
Joining Gooding and Holt are Gigi Zumbado (The Real Bros of Simi Valley), Michaela Watkins (Dinner with the Parents), Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Chucky), and Jordana Brewster (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning), adding depth to the star-studded cast. Written by Phillip Murphy (The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard) alongside horror-comedy veterans Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) and Michael Kennedy (Freaky), Heart Eyes promises a cleverly crafted script that balances scares with biting humor.
With producers like Landon, Greg Gilreath, and Adam Hendricks (M3gan, Totally Killer) on board, and executive production by Spyglass Media Group’s Gary Barber and Chris Stone, Heart Eyes brings together some of the best minds in horror. This latest release capitalizes on the rising appeal of romance horror—a genre that taps into the anxieties of love and relationships, flipping traditional Valentine’s Day expectations on their head.
As Heart Eyes prepares to slice into theaters this February, it stands ready to join the ranks of romance horror films that explore the shadowy side of love. For fans of blood and passion alike, this Valentine’s Day promises a thrilling twist: in Heart Eyes, love isn’t just blind—it’s lethal.
